Korhan Yurtsever was born on 10 July 1947 in Istanbul. A graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration, Yurtsever met cinema in 1965 at the studio owned by his uncle. Here he took lessons in editing and synchronization. He also ranked third in the Turkish Motocross Championship. He first started working as an assistant director at Birsel Film Company. He made his directorial debut in 1978 with the film Firatin Cinleri. The film received the Special Jury Award at the San Remo Film Festival in Italy, 3 Golden Oranges at the Antalya Film Festival and the Best Foreign Film Award at the Varna Film Festival in Bulgaria.
