Overview: JAWS really set the bar high for shark movies back in 1975, and THE MEG tries to bring the shark genre into a new generation. It does this by basically having Jason Statham fight a 70 foot long prehistoric Megalodon shark in hand-to-hand combat. With a description like that, how did this movie manage to drop the ball? Why did the whole basis of his character make no sense? How did he “see” a giant shark BEFORE it was set free from the Mariana Trench? Why don’t we get to see a shark for like 45 minutes of the movie? Why does it feel like a high budget version of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus or Sharknado? |
