Overview: Harrods is the place where dreams are possible. Once a simple grocer that competed on price, it's now a palace where price is irrelevant. Occupying a five-acre site, its seven floors offer over a million square feet of shopping space. Its moto is 'all things for all people, everywhere' and it lives up to its name. This is the place were Anthony Rendal, and his friend Ace 'Burke', bought a lion for 250 guineas in 1969. They kept him in their basement for a year, exercising him in the local churchyard, before releasing him in Kenya. It's also the place where some of the most famous toy animals came to life, including Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Roo and Kanga who were all bought in its' toy dept by AA Milne, who turned them into one of the most successful children's books ever. |
